3 Tips for Looking Your Best This School Year

The start of a brand new school year is the perfect time to show all of the hard work you’ve been doing this summer! But before it’s time to hit the books, there’s still time to hit the gym! Here are some exercises and tips you can use to get the most out of your August.

1. Add Cardio to Your Routine

Nothing gets the blood flowing and those calories dropping like cardio does! Enjoy the sunshine and head outside for a nice long run. Looking for a low-impact exercise? Grab a bicycle and explore your down!

  • Running

Simple, inexpensive, and good for your body, what could be better? Besides weight loss, it is good for your heart, lungs, and entire circulatory system.

With every pound of your foot on the pavement, you are also getting rid of your stress. Any aerobic exercise helps prevent stress, interrupt anxiety, and promote focus. With the textbooks and study guides right around the corner, I’d say being focused would be in your favor! Not to mention, the lean sculpted body you’ll be walking down the hallways with will grab everyone’s attention!

  • Cycling

Cycling works out all of the major muscle groups as you travel. If you were looking to tone those abs, then hop on that bike and go! That’s right, internal and external abdominal muscles work to stabilize you as you’re cycling, which ultimately gives them an awesome work out.

Besides the obvious exercise your legs are getting, your butt is also working hard. When it comes to coasting down hills and riding up mountains, your gluteus maximus is taking the reigns. Not to mention the excellent rush you get from taking your bike down alternate paths besides the usual straightforward route. Bring some friends with you too; race them and challenge yourself! The push will only make you and your body look better in the upcoming months.

2. Catch those Zzzs

Mind and body coincide with one another, so to have a healthy body, you must also have to have a healthy mind. Getting enough sleep helps clear your mind and actually allows you to remember things more easily. Things you learned during the day will also solidify as you are sleeping. The quicker you learn what you need to succeed in school, the more time you’ll have for extracurricular activities and staying fit!

Sleeping also keeps down inflammatory proteins that lead to higher blood levels. Its important to have level blood pressure when working out or it could hinder your performance or cause a serious injury. Studies show that sleep can actually improve your stamina, precisely 10 hours a night rather than 8.

3. Pay Attention To What You Eat

Keeping your body in good shape takes focus in and out of the gym. I know pizza, Chinese food, and ice cream all seem OK from time to time, but if you can buckle down and resist, it will make all the difference. You will see a real change in your body that will stand out to not only yourself, but also everyone around you.

A healthy diet doesn’t have to be boring! For example, every time you eat vegetables, it doesn’t have to be in a salad. You can mix cauliflower into your morning eggs, experiment with veggie noodles, or turn zucchini, avocados, and carrots into fries! Adding variety to your meals will help you stay focused and on your grind.

When you are full…stop eating! This seems like a silly thing to say, but it takes your brain approximately 20 minutes to figure out that your stomach is full. Breath in between bites; you may be more full than you think.
